How To Remove Reviews From Google

Have you ever decided not to use a specific service or business based on a negative Google review? All business owners know that it takes a lot of hard work to build and maintain a great star rating on Google. You never want to be put in a situation where potential clients are turning away from your business based on a disgruntled employee’s poor review.

Did you know that Google recently changed its terms and conditions to categorize employee/ex-employee ratings and comments as a conflict of interest? That means you have the right to have a post or rating flagged and ultimately, removed if it is an employee or former employee leaving the remarks.  It doesn’t seem fair that your brand should suffer because of an employment disagreement, right? After all, it is not directly related to the services you provide.

An employer we recently assisted in this process had a total of 6 reviews where all but two were four or five-star reviews. The two poor reviews were left by former employees, which was obviously frustrating to the owner.  Once they were able to remove those employees’ negative reviews, the business went from a 3.5-star rating to a 4.8-star rating.

How to Flag a Post as Inappropriate:

An employee, current or former, rating your company or leaving a review on Google is considered a conflict of interest and you can have it flagged and removed. Here are the steps to take to get a review that you deem as inappropriate flagged.

  1. Log in to your Google My Business account
  2. Go to the Reviews tab to locate the review you would like to flag
  3. Click the three vertical dots to the right of the review. This will display a menu of options
  4. Select “Flag as inappropriate”
  5. Select which type of violation the review falls within

This process can be followed on a mobile device as well.

Once you have flagged a post or rating as inappropriate it can take anywhere from 24 hours to three weeks to get removed.
